Editorial
Here it is finally! It took months before a new version of RAINE came out! Release 0.38 brings the emulator
new life and features new games (Arkanoid and... Pengo? WOW!), fixes and updates... thanks to the huge work of Tux and
nlx_doom. ...and here it comes: a new issue of Zzap!Raine.
An interesting news about Lee Bolton (chief editor and reviewer in Zzap! #107). His site Peek'n'Poke
now features a brand new graphics layout, many interesting sections, lots of infos regarding retrocomputing and old arcade
games. I suggest you to watch the "PeeknPoke Episode One" full motion video, showing Lee as a cool anchorman: very
funny!
Let's go back speaking about Zzap!Raine. IlTimido is back on a new Blast from the Past after a long
time, and this time he tells us lots of oddities abotu a true arcade classic: Space Invaders. Ever heard about the ideas who
led programmers to invent the game? No? OK, take a while and go read the article!
Oh so many news... we believe you should be now used to our policy about innovations heh! There's a new face
on Zzap!Test: Lloyd Mangram is back on Zzap!Rrap, the good ol' mail corner... I wish he won't shout against
our readers - well you should know he's a really odd guy!
Speaking of oddities, you'll also find a gift inside of this issue: The Journeyman, a novel written
by Gordon Houghton... yes it's true! A full novel is inside for free! I wish you all appreciate it.
Er... am I missing something? Oh sure, this issue's reviewed games: Chase HQ is dedicated to all
those people (not me!) dreaming to role cops pursuiting outlaws on a Porsche; Cadash is an adventure/action game
looking similar to Rastan; Snow Bros is a funny platformer featuring lots of odd characters and great gameplay;
Terra Force is the sequel to the famous Terra Cresta but with an additionale feature: screen scrolls both vertically
and horizontally at player's choice, making the game looking a mix between Terra Cresta and Nemesis.
Don't forget to read Zzap!Test and its reviews: The Newzealand Story and Arkanoid: Revenge
of Doh, all home computer versions (C64, Spectrum, X68000, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST).
Last but not least, I thank Anthony Stiller for drawing caricatures for Lloyd and Lee and Gordon Houghton
for letting us host his novel.
Happy zzapping and happy reading!
