Space Invaders DX
Manufacturer: Taito
Year: 1994

The first Space Invaders was born in 1978. After 16 years we have an Arcade that collects all available Space Invaders versions plus some news.
The story is always the same: destroy as many invaders as you can and break high score. Game player has got a tank to shoot with and four barriers to defend himself from aliens bullets.
These barriers can be hit and ruined by aliens and also by our bullets.
Sometimes at the top of the screen under the score, the mother-ship appears, and if you hit it you get a mysterious bonus point.

Game ends either when you finish all lives (three initially) or when aliens land, invading Earth.
The news about DX version are that you can select the cabinet and, by choosing cocktail cabinet, you can choose even the display type. Anyway, the real news is that you can select parody game mode and versus game mode. Parody is the same game as usual, but, instead of tanks we have to drive a Taito game character and aliens are the nasty characters of the corresponding Taito game.

First level starts with The Newzealand story characters, and carrying on playing you find also Bubble Bobble characters (this is the level I prefer).
Once you've finished all levels game starts again from the beginning. In this version besides scoring as many points as possible there is the curiosity to see the following levels.
In versus mode avoid aliens to land and don't worry about anything else: you get infinite lives! If aliens touch the ground, your opponent will get a medal, the first one who get 3 medals wins. Pay attention to colored invaders: by hitting them you can get a positive or negative effect in the game depending on the color; now I won't tell you which colors you should hit and not hit, otherwise you'll lose interest!

Even if you can select different Space Invaders versions, which is quite interesting, game is always the same as a 1978 arcade game, and the addiction of 2 new modes could make it a bit more exciting. Recommended to Space Invaders real fans only, anyway, it shouldn't miss in the collection of a proper Raine user: we are talking about a historic game!

Zaxxon1I don't know if there is somebody who doesn't know or isn't able to play Space Invaders. Probably Taito developers had thought the same because game presentation is very short.
There are some simply sound effects and some short tunes.
Also graphics are plain, at the same level of sound and presentation. Maybe something better could have been made in Parody mode. Obviously game can't be original (it's an old arcade remake), but is immediately playable but, after trying all its options, there is nothing else to discover, so there is no more reason to play it again.

LilianaPresentation is quite simple but clear at the same time, well, it couldn't be different, seeing that there isn't much to explain. It's interesting to see al the available versions. What else can I say...that is more a collection game for the nostalgic players.

Roy JonesNearly nothing for the presentation. Game is not so good... Taito wanted to remind the end of 70's graphics... not a good idea...
Is there sound? Really?
One point to originality, not for the game itself but for the fact that you have various available choice possibility: in fact you can choose among several display types and three different kind of games, one of which is the parody game with The Newzealand Story's characters. Hook/Lastability: I played for 5 minutes and it was enough...
Taito could avoid to repropose this game...
